We have been observing the urgent need for a lighter footprint web for a while now. Bloated heavyweight western origin websites are too cumbersome and data inefficient for so many users in emerging markets. For many users in these markets bandwidth use is watched with vigilance and data costs are exorbitant.

It’s refreshing to see the titans of the industry wake up to this and pursue efforts to create much lighter bandwidth experiences for growing audiences. Kudos to YouTube for launching their “offline-first” lightweight YouTube Go product in Africa.

We hope this see’s a rise in data-efficient product practices across the board. We certainly know it’s top priority at Bambwa Media.
